I live in Eugene, OR (running capital of the USA and anarchist capital of the west coast; go Eugene! ). I'm married to a beautiful and loving woman, and I have three furry and four-legged children: Lady Bug, Rosy, and Hero. When I'm not programming for work I enjoy programming for fun. I also enjoy spending time with the wife and both of our families, eating good food ( I used to live on a diet of only yogurt and bagels but my native-Japanese wife changed all that! ), drawing, playing ( and making) video games, teasing my younger sisters, and acting. I've done martial arts since I was nine and try to stay active by running and playing outside. I am an avid reader ( currently reading Norman Davies' "Europe, a History", Andrew Hunt and David Thomas' "The Pragmatic Programmer", James Collins and Jerry Porras' "Built to Last, Successful Habits of Visonary Companies", and C.S. Lewis' "Chronicles of Narnia" as well as countless magazines). Finally I enjoy playing other full-contact sports like ping-pong and badminton.

I discovered computer programming at the ripe age of ten years old using HyperCard ( a Mac-only black and white environment that was a combination of PowerPoint, FileMaker, and really simple scripting ). Instead of making slideshows with HyperCard I programmed the little buttons into fighting character (including shooting fireballs, which were also little moving navigation buttons). Computer programming became my savior in school ( I was bored out of my mind ) and still to this day it is the only thing that challenges me mentally ( which is why I love it! ). It's the perfect combination of art, logic, and problem solving. I've since graduated from HyperTalk and programmed all sorts of applications in all sorts of languages ( check my portfolio for examples ) and I'm always looking to learn new things.

My other passion is teaching in all forms. This includes student teaching in a classroom, teaching martial arts, training fellow programmers, mentoring extremely talented and gifted children outside of school, or volunteering for youth enrichment programs for the city. I'm a natural leader and love working with people. I'm also creative, enthusiastic, outgoing, and love to put on a good show, which makes teaching a great conduit for my personal skills. I've taught countless programs, won a few teaching awards, and even published an article in a teaching magazine ( I built an online colonial history simulation to teach the students in my 5th grade classroom about the American Revolution ).

Currently I'm performing contract work for various clients, considering getting another "real job", and pursuing some exciting projects of my own creation.
